Cookie Life: How Affiliates Earn Commissions on User Actions
Cookie Life is the period of time when all actions made by a user, directed by an affiliate on the advertiser’s site, are commissioned by that particular affiliate. It is a parameter used for advertisers’ campaigns that is attached to the user and which is (re)activated with every click made by that user on the affiliates’ promoting tool.
Only the last affiliate who directed the user on the advertiser’s site will receive commission for the user’s actions.
Example:
A per-sale affiliate program with 3 months cookie life. An affiliate displays a banner for a particular advertiser. A user clicks the affiliate’s banner and is redirected to the advertiser’s site. All orders placed by that user on the advertiser’s site within the next 3 months will be commissioned by that affiliate.
- If after one month (for example) the user clicks on a promoting tool (it may be the same banner) displayed by the same affiliate, the cookie life reactivates and gives the user another 3 months to complete the order.
- If after one month (for example) the user clicks on another promoting tools displayed by the second affiliate, the cookie life resets and gives the user another 3 months to complete an order, but all commissions related to the orders will be granted to the second affiliate.
