Receiving Missing tool messages

Why do you get Missing tool messages and what happens to the user?

Are you receiving Missing tool messages and don't know why?

It means that you are using tools in the platform to promote an advertiser that is no longer active (deactivated in the network) OR you have used a promotion tool that is no longer available from an active advertiser.

This means you're using tools from the platform to promote an advertiser who is no longer active (deactivated in the network), OR you're using a promotion tool that is no longer available from an active advertiser.

These messages are automatically sent by the platform in two different situations:

  1. If the tool you’re using was deleted by an active advertiser in 2Performant;

  2. If you're using a promotion tool from an advertiser who is no longer active in 2Performant.

1. If the tool you’re using was deleted by the advertiser, you will receive a “Missing tool” message.

If the advertiser deletes a banner for a finished promotion or removes a product that is no longer available from their feed, you’ll receive a notification the first time a user tries to access that tool.

The notification will tell you: who the advertiser is (Affiliate program:), what the tool is (URL:), the tool type (Tool Type: banner / quicklink / product_store), and the referrer (where the user clicked on your site), if available.

  • What happens to the user?

They will be redirected to the advertiser’s homepage. If they place an order, you’ll receive your commission as usual.

2. If you're using a promotion tool from an advertiser who is no longer active in 2Performant, you’ll also receive a “Missing tool” message.

If the advertiser closed their affiliate program in 2Performant, all of their promotion tools become unavailable. If you still have those tools on your site, you’ll receive a notification when a user tries to access one.

The notification will tell you: who the advertiser is (Affiliate program:), what the tool is (URL:), the tool type (Tool Type: banner / quicklink / product_store), and the referrer (where the user clicked on your site), if available.

  • What happens to the user?

The user is redirected to our No Tool Error page:
https://network.2performant.com/notoolerror.html

This informs them that they clicked on an affiliate link that can no longer be used.

If you're enrolled in the 2Performant affiliate program and the user ends up creating an affiliate/advertiser account, you will receive a commission according to the 2Performant affiliate commission structure.
